Š. m. birželio 8 d. Kauno technologijos universiteto (KTU) 3 rūmuose, Laisvės alėja 13, Mažojoje salėje buvo pristatyta 2023 m. išleista rinktinė „Kąsniukai”. Renginį koordinavo Ingrida Zeleniakienė. Trumpų pertraukėlių metu, salę užliejant saksofonisto Armundo Jonaičio muzikai, svečiai vaišinosi vieno kąsnio užkandėlėmis – kąsniukais, kurie nuotrupoje (gal akimirkoje?) leidžia pajusti netikėtų skonių (gyvenimo?) harmoniją.
Apie knygos pristatymą, kūrybinius užmojus (ir ne tik) kalbamės su knygos autore, kasmetine „JAV lietuvių poezijos pavasaris” (PoPaJAV, prezidentė ir renginio organizatorė poetė Sandra Avižienytė) dalyve bei viena iš autorių, pristatytų 2024 m. nominacijai, Vilmantija Petruškevičiūte McCarthy.
Prašau pasidalyti su skaitytojais, kokiomis nuotaikomis gyvenate grįžusi iš savo knygos pristatymo Lietuvoje? Kuo jis buvo ypatingas?
Tebegyvenu susitikimo su savo skaitytojais džiaugsmu. Man šis renginys buvo ypatingas savo struktūra – dviejų dalių pristatymas tarsi apjungė abu mano gyvenimo krantus. Pirmoje dalyje, tarsi bandydama atitikti kitų lūkesčius, ištraukas iš naujai išleistos ir jau rengiamos knygos skaičiau pasidabinusi puošnia, blizgiais aksesuarais suknele. Prisistačiau kaip poetė ir rašytoja iš nepakartojamo vėjų miesto – Čikagos, kuriame gyvenu jau per 20 metų. Antroje renginio dalyje į salę išėjau basomis kojomis. Tokią mane prisimena man artimi žmonės: „Atsimeni, aš ta mergaitė iš žolės –/Oda šilkinė ir plaukai šiaudiniai./Aš ta, kur veidą atsukau prieš vėją./Kai tarė man skaudžius žodžius likimas” („Mergaitė iš žolės“).
Rinktinė „Kąsniukai“ („Bites“) šleista lietuvių ir anglų kalbomis – tereikia apversti knygą priešinga puse, kad galėtum ją skaityti anglų kalba. Taigi mano skaitytojai yra ir tie lietuviai, kuriems jau per sunku skaityt gimtąja kalba, ir amerikiečiai.
Kokie Jūsų kūrybiniai planai ateityje?
Šiuo metu ant mano darbo stalo išdėliotuose rankraščiuose – eilėraščiai ir trumpi apsakymai, kurie suguls į naujai rengiamą knygą pavadinimu „Aitvarai“. Ši knyga apie tai, ką reikėtų paleisti – jausmus, netektis, žmones. Arba skaudžias patirtis, kartais sukeliančias mintis apie savižudybę. Manau, tai labai aktualu. Su tokiais žmonėmis aš dirbu.
Kokį darbą dirbate Jungtinėse Amerikos Valstijose?
